In August 2022, the California assembly failed to extend employee and B2B data exemptions. This means as of January 1, 2023, California employees will be able to make requests about the personal data that companies have collected on them.
While companies have been required to fulfill employee requests in Europe, this is the first time employees will be able to do a data subject access request (DSAR) on the information their employers have stored.
