Privacy professionals working for companies that do business with California residents need to pay attention. The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) is the first comprehensive commercial privacy law in the United States. On Nov 4, 2020, it was announced that California’s Proposition 24 passed. Approval of Prop. 24 means the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) will be amended to the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), which includes the establishment of a new privacy enforcement agency, new definitions for sensitive data with limits on use and sharing, and expanded breach liability.
Justin is joined by Consumer Reports’ policy analyst, Maureen Mahoney, Ph.D, where they’ll discuss the law’s effect on consumers, businesses, and predictions on how CPRA may influence other state and possibly federal legislation.
